Gerard Byrne: 24th April to 30th September 2010

Lismore Castle Arts is delighted to announce our 2010 annual exhibition, Gerard Byrne, opened on April 24th and will continue until September 30th 2010, at Lismore Castle Arts, Lismore, Co. Waterford, Ireland.

For the exhibition, Lismore Castle Arts has co-commissioned (with the 2010 Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art and The Renaissance Society at The University of Chicago, in collaboration with the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven) an ambitious new work by Byrne.  A Thing is a Hole in a Thing it is Not is manifested as four separate films about Minimalism, shown parallel to on another.  At Lismore Castle Arts new off-site project space, Byrne will present the work Untitled Acting Exercise (in the third person), which records the efforts of two actors and a director attempting to understand a script through dramatisation.  This work was commissioned for the 2008 Sydney Biennale and will be shown as a single projection in a 19th Century former Church Hall.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a limited edition publication, designed by the Peter Maybury Studio. It will include a newly commissioned text by Dr. Penelope Curtis, an interview with Gerard Bryne and Mike Fitzpatrick along with a reproduction of Alex Potts essay on sculpture and photography as well as texts from the Van Abbemuseum archives. It will be published by Lismore Castle Arts supported by the Van Abbemuseum in September 2010. This beautifully produced hardback, monochrome book will retail for €19.95, should you wish to reserve your copy please click This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
