THE GARDEN GALLERY PROJECT

LAUNCH EVENT - TUESDAY 15 MAY, 2PM

Secondary school pupils have been invited to take part in workshops with master stone mason Philip Quinn. Drawing inspiration from Lismore Castle Arts’ current exhibition by Rashid Johnson, participants will create a series of sculptures inspired by the exhibition.

The Garden Gallery project will see 2 schools - Blackwater Community School, Lismore, and Meánscoil San Nioclás, An Rinn - participate in an intensive project, comprising of school visits, gallery research session and hands on workshops. These artworks will be presented in Lismore Castle Gardens through the open season alongside the works of renowned artists Rashid Johnson, Antony Gormley and Richard Wright. Student’s works will be gifted back to the schools and installed in a location of their choosing.

Working in collaboration with local guides and scouting groups Lismore Castle Arts has designed an ambitious day long outdoors workshop inspired by the works of land artists, Richard Long and Andy Goldsworthy. Taking inspiration from the formal gardens, participants accumulate a mass of materials and visual information to respond to. The workshop results in a series of beautiful pieces of art formed fully from natural materials collected throughout the day.
