Dervla Baker was invited to Lismore in 2020 to research a new project, inviting people to submit photos and negatives from personal and local collections. Dervla welcomed both historic and recent images, working closely with the Lismore community, and local and national archives.

The work was carefully gathered, scanned and digitised by Dervla, and collated into a personal response from the artist. The images chosen reflect a mix of the people and stories encountered by the artist. Dervla’s area of research would lead her in particular to focusing on the personal story - individuals who have appeared in images then and now, and how our personal stories evolve into history.

A selection of images were on view at St Carthage Hall from 5 to 13 March 2022

This project was part of our yearly A Space for Lismore programme, where we commission an artist to research a project of interest to them within the community of Lismore.
